Amazing to little boys

As always, I am writing about my grandsons I just love my grandchildren so much. Many of you can probably relate to grandparenthood where you can do more, enjoy more and spoil them a little more.

Our adventures are always so interesting to all of us. They don't always have to cost money or be expensive.

Once again we were fishing which we do quite a bit. Lucas becomes bored faster when fishing if he is not having much luck. Collin, it's a challenge to not give up. You start catching fish then Lucas suddenly becomes involved again. of course.

After trying awhile Lucas puts down his rod and wonders around checking out weeds and bugs. He came across this huge yellow and black spider. Excited, e called for me to come with my camera which I always include in our escapades. As we looked around we found more. The webs of these spiders were very interesting. Some had bugs caught in them which helped explain one of the jobs of the web.  Trapping their dinner. How when an insect lands on the web it becomes stuck and rarely gets away.  Then as the victim fights to get away the shaking of the web alerts the spider who will then come to wrap him up to eat now or later.  How cool to a little boy.

Later at home we checked the internet to understand this interesting BUG a bit more. I found pictures and different names so I am a little confused. It's been called a grass spider, zipper spider and a web weaver. While all these spiders look exactly the same I'm not sure if it is all the same spider or somehow I am missing something.

The one great thing about this whole story is we've added another insect to my grandsons album which goes to school with them on a regular basis. Once again I've touched their lives.  This time with a spider, an arthropod.

One of my favorite things when I was little was to find not just any bug, but a bug we'd never seen before. That was pretty easy considering that we lived in the country and there were thousands of different bugs to be seen. I loved the ones with vibrant colors :)

There are some neat bugs out there. As long as they don't bite.
